This time we go back to 1924, the year of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and music critic John Lewis tells us about why this piece, this recording and this composer have all made such an indelible mark on American music, and hold such power nearly a century later. the debuts of Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith and King Oliver and plenty of other pioneering jazz, blues and country records.
